NOTA's 2025 Hill Day Recap
Advocacy in Action at the Nevada State Capitol - March 28, 2025
On March 28th, 19 passionate occupational therapy students and practitioners from across Nevada gathered for NOTA’s 2025 Hill Day — a full day of connection, advocacy, and empowerment at the state capitol. Participants engaged in legislative meetings with Assembly members and State Senators, tabled in the Capitol lobby to raise awareness of OT, and learned more about how advocacy efforts can shape state policy.
Throughout the day, attendees:
- Took part in meaningful conversations with legislators about the value of occupational therapy
- Educated Capitol visitors and staff at our informational table — the Dynamometer Challenge drew lots of attention!
- Sat in on committee hearings to better understand the legislative process
- Built strong connections with fellow OT professionals and students
- Wrapped up the day by writing thank-you postcards to legislators
Participants reported a significant increase in understanding of both the Nevada legislative process and NOTA’s advocacy role. The most valuable takeaways included:
- “Understanding how bills move through committee and realizing how impactful our voices can be.”
- “The friendliness of legislators — they truly listened.”
- “Feeling empowered to call in or comment on bills I care about.”
The energy of the day left participants feeling very optimistic about the future recognition and impact of OT in Nevada. Many left inspired to stay involved and advocate for policies that support the profession and the communities we serve.
