Advocacy as Everyday Practice

Advocacy is often seen as something separate from everyday practice, but in reality, it is already embedded in the work we do. In occupational therapy, advocacy shows up in how we communicate, how we support access, and how we ensure our clients’ needs are understood and valued.
Rather than being a single role or moment, advocacy is a way of thinking. It begins with noticing barriers, asking questions, and taking small steps toward change. Over time, those small actions can extend beyond individual interactions to influence larger systems and communities.
As you engage with this content, consider how your daily actions, decisions, and voice already contribute to advocacy, and how you might continue to build on that in meaningful ways.
